Oct. 2013 Director's Newsletter

Hi everyone,

If you have not seen it, this is our motto:
  Fun @1-2-3 !
1 Core Value - Respect
2 Key Rules - Focus & Perseverance
3 Basic Skills: Agility, Balance, Coordination

Yes, one of our goals is to let everyone in our program understand and enjoy the principals of judo and it’s as easy as 1-2-3.
Below are some highlights in October:
  • Welcome new coach – Sensei Karl. Sensei Karl is a second degree black belt (Nidan). He is a determined and patient instructor and competitor.
  • On Saturday the 26th everyone had the rare privilege of throwing Sensei Masaki. We would like to congratulate Sensei Masaki on his new occupation in Disney World bringing joy to people and keeping company with Mickey and Donald’s Judo Club House. All of the Judoka at Phoenix want to thank you for everything and wish you the best.
  • Oct. 05, was our first time class that included judoka of all ages, including men, women, and children in one practice from 3 year- old little judoka to 75 year- old black belts. In addition, the father of NESA owner is enjoying judo with us as well, that is great support of our program from the owner of NESA.
  • If anyone has not seen it yet, our story “The Gentle Way” from the Westwood Press came out on Oct.24.  It was well written and we hope it will inspire more people to take up the world’s greatest martial art – sport.
  • One of the axioms (principals) of judo is to help each other learn and grow.  We would like to thank Dr. Peter. Without being asked, he provided for his care to a few of our students/players. If you know of anyone who needs adjustments or is looking for a great chiropractor, please visit Dr. Peter’s office in Westwood. He is one of the most highly recommended chiropractic doctors in the country.
  • Our program AD is on TV in the NESA reception area as well as other 28 locations. We will continue to find ways to make our Phoenix judo the best Judo Program in Mass and beyond.
  • Theo, our little Judoka got injured on 10/26 during the warm-up. We hope he has a speedy recovery and that we are thinking of him.
One of the greatest motivations for our coaching is seeing students/players learning and growing on the mat, we all want to hear and see techniques’ like throws, hold-downs, etc.  being learned. With all of your participation, we will continue to improve and grow and also find more enjoyment through the benefits of judo, so please make every possible effort to attend classes. It’s important that you notify the coaches if you are not coming next class (Our kids are beating adults in this) and we truly understand your busy schedule outside of the DoJo.
Believe it or not, the holiday season is coming. We will close on the following dates:
Nov.27 – Wed. before thanksgiving
Dec.25 – Wed.  Christmas (NESA Closed)
Jan.01 – Wed. New Year’s day  (NESA Closed)

The following dates are TBD depends on how many people will be in the class, please let us know if there’re time you can’t come:
 Nov.30 – Sat. after thanksgiving
Dec.23 – Mon. before Christmas

We are offering clinics and 1x1 private lessons. If you’re interested, please let me know.
Lastly a thought for all of us remember - We are not only learning how to fall, more importantly we are learning how to get up. “Learn the meaning of seven times down eight times up.” by Kyuzo Mifune 10th dan.

Thank you everyone,
